"don't cry mum"

Remember the kid who was in a student protest at Putrjaya once? He got in a bit of strife again, and was charged in court. The prosecution could not prove a prima facie case. He lost his street cred when his mum burst into tears and started smothering him with kisses. :)

raya visit

The family of siamangs came over just as I was preparing for my open house. They had a picnic of my mum's cempedak and pucuk ubi. My mum said, "Takpalah datang makan. Rumah dia takda makan."

snip snip

I love that service is good and cheap in KL.

mystery

for a country that does not recognise that Israel is a country, and does not allow its citizens to go there, we sure as hell sell a lot of travel books on it.

ok-karaoke!

I don't remember when karaoke turned from seedy activity of triad gang members to acceptable family+friends activity of the middle class. Whatever it is though, I ain't complainin...

the best things in life

Good friends + laughter + lovely park + great weather = the perfect saturday morning :)

Among the best things about KL

...is the proximity to gorgeous waterfalls.

No banking day

One day I went to Maybank and guess what I saw? Bankers standing in a line waving flags all the way from the entrance.

As it were, in Malaysia, when the Prime Minister comes to your office, it is compulsory to turn into groupies.

The thorny issue

Quintessentially Asian, if not Malaysian...although I wonder if other Asian or even South East Asian countries consume durian with the sort of gutso that Malaysians do.

here's looking at you, kid

Not so long ago there was a small student protest at the Ministry of Higher Education. The police were slightly compromising but obviously unimpressed.

The student in green was later detained for a while and released. I'm guessing it was just to rattle him a bit, but he appeared to be nonplussed.

cultural guidance

When I told my father that I was going to watch Ramli Ibrahim perform he said, "I like him. I used to watch him quite often."

I wondered then why he never took me to a show and that I had to head to India to discover the intricacies of Indian dance.

fashion sense

Definitions of 'stylo' can be wide-ranging.

9/11 visions

Driving into KL i spot this airplane flying terribly low with no airport in sight.

At a traffic light previously, it was so low that I could discern the logo (Malaysia Airlines), see all the engines, and really, if it dropped any lower I'd be able to make up who was on the plane. Even helicopters don't fly this low, surely?

At least here it appear to be on an upward trajectory. Minutes before it looked like it was swooping lower and lower.

Obviously, I started having visions of 9/11 in my head, as did, I suppose the group of guys who pulled over and started taking a video of the plane circling KL.

I later find out that MAS was giving some orphans a "joy-ride". Can or not? People panic already ok.

---------
ps: The long absence can be explained in parts. Part 1 - my scotch-taped camera has gone to a new level of low. The screen cracked so I can't see what photo I'm taking. Part 2 - I have been out of town. (Lots of interesting photos, but not of KL unfortunately...)

About This Blog

KL in Photos is a personal homage to the city I love.

Photos are usually not digitally edited but sometimes I get a bit diligent and fix it for brightness and contrast.

Most are taken using my handy blackberry camera, some with a Canon powershot.

All within Klang Valley (which would include Shah Alam, Putrajaya, Ampang, Petaling Jaya, Klang etc.)
